A Brief History Of The Quartermaster Corps

Beginning in 1912 the Quartermaster Department became the Quartermaster Corps, with a new way of operating. For the first time the Army recognized that trained Soldiers were required to support military operations, especially in combat or overseas situations.

Short History Of The Quartermaster Corps

The Quartermaster Corps traces its origins to 16 June 1775. Two days after Congress authorized the Continental Army it also authorized a Quartermaster General and his deputy, in recognition of the need for logistical support to the new Army.

Quartermaster Generals, 1775 — Present

The office of the Quartermaster General was established by resolution of the Continental Congress on 16 June 1775, but the position was not filled until 14 August 1775.

Mettle Without Medals

The 4009th was a Negro unit. They went into action in the early days in Normandy and stuck with it through the first hellish weeks in that sector. They inaugurated the now-famous Red Ball truck highway. They were trapped in the Ardennes offensive and helped reduce the Ruhr pocket.
