The museum’s weapons collection contains firearms that include both small arms and long arms. Weapons in this category include flintlock, percussion, early metallic cartridge varieties, bolt action, semi automatic, and automatic weapons. Edged weapons consist of swords and sabers, knives, and bayonets. All firearms are made inoperable by removing firing mechanisms and storing them in other locations.

The firearm collection is a good representative of the evolution of firing systems used by the American Army since 1775. The physical security requirements for storing and exhibiting weapons are manageable from an operational standpoint because of the small size of the collection. The edged weapons collection likewise contains representative examples of the evolution of swords and sabers, and bayonets. (There are currently no firearms or edged weapons on exhibit. Diorama’s where weaponry is appropriate contain reproductions.)
